Sky Tran: Innovation In Urban Transportation

Sky Tran: High speed, low cost, green, elevated, personal rapid transit

That is the message from CEO of Sky Tran, Jerry Sanders.

Sky Tran is the developer of the patented high-speed, elevated, levitating, energy-efficient, transportation system. The system is a network of computer-controlled, 2-person “jet-like” vehicles. Employing state-of-the-art passive, magnetic levitation (maglev) technology. It will transport passengers in a fast, safe, green, and economical manner. Sky Tran intends to revolutionize public transportation and, with it, urban and suburban commuting.

Sky Tran partnered with Israel Aerospace Industries(IAI). Jerry Sanders remarked, “The support afforded by IAI is a breakthrough for SkyTran. IAI, as a worldclass designer of aircraft and avionics, is the perfect partner to take Sky Tran from concept to construct.” Director of IAI’s Lahav Division, Yossi Melamed declared, “We are proud to be part of this exciting moment in transportation history and to host the first SkyTran system in our grounds. The TDS (Sky Tran Technology Demonstration System) will incorporate IAI’s advanced capabilities in the areas of engineering, robotics, and control.”

The TDS will incorporate SkyTran’s salient features. It will provide a platform for Sky Tran vehicles to travel at high speeds, with full payloads while levitating. The TDS will enable testing, refinement, and validation of SkyTran’s technology in a controlled environment. The TDS will be followed by deployment of the first commercial Sky Tran system in Tel Aviv, Israel. Other projects worldwide are pending TDS completion.

In addition to being a tenant in the NASA Research Park, NASA and SkyTran entered into nonreimbursable Space Act Agreements. Agreements to collaboratively study “Human Habitability and Intelligent Control of an Advanced Transportation System.” “The NRP is proud to have Sky Tran as a valued tenant and partner in our world-class shared-use R&D and education campus for industry, academia, non-profits, and government,” said S. Pete Worden, director of NASA’s Ames Research Center, which founded and manages the NRP. “The NRP provides a physical place for innovation and entrepreneurship and serves as a technology accelerator through fostering both informal and formal collaborations.”

High Capacity

SkyTran’s computer-controlled, 2-person vehicles can accommodate much of the world’s commuting population. Within a smaller footprint and for less than other mass transit systems. Because Sky Tran is built as an expandable grid, it will never be filled to capacity. As the demand grows, more track can be installed and additional vehicles can be added to the network. The robust state-of the-art system grows in the same way that the Internet grows: exponentially and immediately. In fact, you can think of Sky Tran as a “Physical Internet.”

The sophisticated computer network paces vehicles at optimum spacing and speeds to handle a significant number of commuters in a safe and efficient manner. The Sky Tran system recognizes you. It responds to where you would like to go, and gets you there in the fastest time possible.

Clean Energy

SkyTran uses state-of-the-art maglev propulsion, the most energy-efficient way to travel by mass-transit. The kinetic energy-driven system emits virtually no pollution and it doesn’t need much energy to operate. The power used in two hair dryers can fly you at over 62 mph (100 kph) with Sky Tran. The legacy of polluting combustible engines can be reduced significantly by installing a clean and green SkyTran system.

The minimal power that is needed to operate the SkyTran maglev vehicles can be obtained almost entirely from clean energy such as solar power. The poles, tracks, and even the vehicles provide an ideal platform to hold solar panels.

On the one hand this system seems to eliminate some personal freedoms. Allowing for complete monitoring and control. However, as a supplementary means of transit it is an invaluable innovation for the purposes of elevating the quality of living on the planet. All while promoting safety, economic stability and environmental integration.

This is a game changing innovation that will have a massive impact on our day to day life.
